Today…
I’ve decided to stay on the Substack platform for now. I’ve looked at other platforms, and there’s not a ton of difference. Actually, Substack has more functionality, and I’m already here and comfortable with the process. The other issues I mentioned earlier will be on my mind as I go forward, but at this stage of the game, I’ll just stay and focus on writing, writing deeper, better and more consistently.
The various projects I’ve started require more thought and direction, so I’ll be iterating (again) over the weekend. I have a much better idea of what I’m going to do with Brewstee (beer), Off The Charts (music) and Potty Mouth (legal THC consumables), and I’m very excited to go deeper on each one.
Sports: This weekend is packed with good stuff. What am I gonna watch? These are all possibilities:
Supercross - At Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA, it’s starting to become the Jett Lawrence/Cooper Webb Show, with Chase Sexton trying to keep pace in order to defend his 2023 championship. Watch for Eli Tomac to make noise as well. Live on Peacock 6:00 CST Saturday.
The Masters - I mean, c’mon, its the Masters. Got my theoretical money on Scottie Scheffler, but really rooting for Corey Conners. Live on CBS and ESPN+ right now.
MotoGP - Third race of the year, and this time it’s in Texas. Just watch the start and the first five laps, and you’ll see what I’ve been yammering about for two months. Live on TBS 1:30 CST Sunday.
NHL - The final weekend of the regular season sees five teams battling for two spots in the playoffs. Watch any game with New York Islanders, Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals, Detroit Red Wings or the Philadelphia Flyers. Three of these teams are kicking off their summer golf season on Monday. Live on ABC/ESPN+ all weekend.
Band o’the day: Blackfield - (click for the artist’s main online hub)
This is a very cool collaboration between Israeli musician Aviv Geffen and prog superstar Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree). I’ll let Aviv give you the deets:
"I don't think it's prog really, it's...very melodic...but it's not prog. I don't allow Steven to play more than two-minute solos. He respects that. Blackfield is everything, it's metal, it's prog, it's pop. Blackfield sounds so special because it's a really odd collaboration. I'm not coming from the prog scene, I'm coming from the indie rock, pop scene. I hate hip hop...We won't do a shitty pop song.”
Ok, then. He also mentions influences for the band include Radiohead, King Crimson, Genesis, and Pink Floyd. Here’s the self-titled track from the self-titled 2004 debut (which I self-think is the best and the perfect place to self-start):
If you’re new here, welcome! Here at Permanent Waves, I write a little blurb about every single band and solo artist in my Spotify Artist list. This newsletter will also serve as a journal, documenting each step of creating a more purposeful life with commitments to ideas and projects I have bored all of my friends with over the past half decade. The last few years have been a blur, and I’m starting this year by working on the discipline to make the things in my head real, or at least attempt to see if they can eventually walk on their own.
See you soon!
